A Very Special Baby Pattern
I don’t normally have art projects that make me cry when I’m drawing them, but this was one that will always be in my heart. This pattern is called Moments.
I had the privilege of creating this design for Soulbaby to honor the Pedicelli family. They lost their son Luca to SIDS last year and wanted to create a piece to celebrate the life of their sweet boy. I got to meet with Luca’s mom Amanda and she shared that her son’s favorite toy was this giraffe named Raffi. She told me all about his personality and how playful and chatty he was and how he loved cookies. We thought a playtime-themed pattern would be a great way to showcase all the different things that Luca loved.
A few details I’d like to point out is that I drew lots of smiles because he was so smiley, Luca as a sleeping angel, and the Infant Loss Ribbon on the set of toy keys as a special nod to all the families that have endured miscarriages, stillbirths or infant loss. I also included a bubble helmet which is a reference to my first pattern I created for Soulbaby called “Space Pigs”.
The Pedicellis loved seeing Luca wear this pattern and gave me permission to share his picture above.
I want to thank Amanda and Gabe Pedicelli and Hannah at Soulbaby for trusting me with such a special and heartfelt project. If you’d like to support and buy one of these pieces, Soulbaby will be donating a portion of sales from this pattern to the American SIDS Institute.
