KJ's Art Brew ✷ Issue #1 // Current Happenings, Fall Pop Ups + More
I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to stay connected with people that’s not heavily relying on all the social media’s algorithms. I’ve found myself too easily distracted by them lately so I’ve been taking little breaks from it and reclaiming my time for more meaningful things. That got me thinking about good ol’ fashion emails and blogs…
A Very Special Baby Pattern
I don’t normally have art projects that make me cry when I’m drawing them, but this was one that will always be in my heart. This pattern is called Moments.
And That’s A Wrap At Daily Madness Productions
Earlier this month I wrapped up my job as a storyboard artist on an unannounced 3D animated series at Daily Madness Productions. I’m thankful I got to board a few episode and work with some talented people across the globe. The past month I’ve been working on some personal projects and getting my next project lined up… stay tuned!
Handmade Clay Pins
I finally opened my online shop with a small batch of handmade clay pins. Last month I had the urge to make physical things with my hands… and since I mostly work digitally, doing this project was very therapeutic.
2021 Recap Of Commercial + Freelance Work!
I was reflecting on this past year and thought it would be nice to keep track and catalog all the different projects I’ve been able to do each year. In 2020, I worked on one show and had 2 1/2 months off, but I also moved 3 times and it was… you know… 2020.
In 2021, I had the privilege of seeing 13 new episodes air that I worked on, I got to storyboard on 2 different shows (and still working on the 2nd one), I boarded a few commercials, an interstitial and I did some freelance illustration for various clients. I also moved (again) and have nested nicely into my new little studio space. Here’s a quick recap of 2021:
Storyboarding on Adult Swim IDs for Rick and Morty at Primal Screen
A few months ago I got to work on this fun project at Atlanta-based studio Primal Screen! Adult Swim needed 2 IDs for the new season of Rick and Morty and I had the privilege of storyboarding and helping time these spots. This was such a cool opportunity for me because I grew up loving weird Adult Swim commercials and now I got to be a part of some! The team at Primal Screen did an amazing job on these, take a look:
Merry Christmas!
This year I designed this little postcard to send out to my family and friends for Christmas :) I love enjoying the holidays, watching A Christmas Vacation at least 10 times and eating way too many treats…
Storyboarding on Jelly, Ben & Pogo "Kamayan" Episode
This month PBS Kids release a new show that I got to storyboard on called Jelly, Ben and Pogo! It’s a sweet mini series created by my friend (and former SCAD classmate) Jalysa Leva at Primal Screen…
Highlights from Boston Episodes on Let's Go Luna
Hello world! This past weekend 2 more episodes aired from Let’s Go Luna: “Old School“ and “Blanket Decision“. Here’s a few highlights from the scenes I worked on…
Some Let's Go Luna Designs/Stills (Season 2 )
Back in May, PBS Kids aired 6 episodes I boarded on from season 2 of Let’s Go Luna: “Big Little Trouble“, “Volcano Boy”, “Gaja’s Birthday”, “Give Me a Sign”, “Muddy Miracle” and “Fabuloso’s New Clothes”. I figured I’d share some of my favorite designs/stills that made it into the episodes…
Storyboarding + WFH Life Update
Hey world, I figured it was time to update since I haven’t posted since the beginning of the year (I really need to get better about my posting)… but here’s a quick recap so far:
Time to Refresh the Site
I finally had the time to give my site the refresh it deserved… I started out just wanted to change my little logo, but doing that was opening a can of worms for me. Then I started changing the fonts and the colors and before I knew it I was reworking the whole site…
So Long for Now Luna
I know I’m a little late to post this but I wrapped up my job as Storyboard Director on Let’s Go Luna back in early October. I drew this little social media announcing it but somehow forgot to post it here.
My 2020 TV Credits
What a year it’s been! I recently finished up boards on season 2 in October and I’ve had 2 episodes air to date!
What Does a Decade of Pursuing a Career in Animation Really Look Like?
With the end of a decade and the start of the new one, I began to reflect on my journey in animation and how far it has taken me. In 2010, I was drawing comics for my school newspaper for $10 a comic… dreaming about someday seeing my characters move, being able to animate and potentially work in television and share my art with everyone. Over this past decade, I’ve been able to see and enjoy the fruits of my labor and be able to work in the industry. I tried to boil down my journey through the years with all the highs and lows below:
